About the role
Job summary
This post is located within a Core CAMHS team in Bury. The role will involve the provision of Clinical Psychology assessment and interventions in to the Core CAMHS service The post will involve casework within the core Tier 3 CAMHS service working with a caseload of young people with complex presentations.
The successful candidate will have experience in delivering several models of psychological therapy to this population (e.g. CBT, DBT, EMDR), and will be keen to develop further therapeutic competence (e.g. IPT, MBT).
The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development and research. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service. They will adhere to Trust policies.
o The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that high quality individualised care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximising independence.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work in a variety of settings, includinga number of specialist children's services and community settings, including the child and family's home, residential settings and the child's school. Liaison with other agencies will require the post holder to attend meetings in social care, voluntary service settings and Education establishments.
The post holder will be required to transport test materials between work sites and to manipulate test items with speed and accuracy, and work with children who may have severe emotional and behavioral problems.

Job responsibilities

Clinical:
- To provide specialist psychological assessments to children and young people up to 18 years of based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with the child, their carers, family members and others involved in the clients care. These should aim to provide as far as possible a clear framework/ shared understanding for the childs development, vulnerabilities, strengths and needs.
- To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of up to 18 years of age with mental health difficulties, learning disabilities, ASD, severe challenging behaviours, attachment problems and complex emotional difficulties. Based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the childs problems, and employing methods of proven efficacy, across the full range of care settings. Appropriate to children, and aimed to enhance potential on the Every Child Matters quality of life indicators.
- To be responsible for designing and implementing a range of psychological interventions for children and their families and those involved in their care who have moderate to severe mental health difficulties, learning disabilities ASD, challenging behaviours or complex emotional difficulties.
- To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning developmental processes and social contexts that have shaped the individual, family or group.
- To undertake risk/challenging behaviour assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide general advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk/challenging behaviour assessment and management.
- To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of children under their care and to monitor and evaluate progress during the course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary care.
- To act as care co-ordinator/lead professional where appropriate ie if a child is being seen by different professionals, this will involve the facilitation and chairing of reviews, offering supervision to work being delivered by other agency staff, ensuring the child and family are central to this process.
- To communicate in a sensitive manner, information concerning the childs assessment and treatment plan, ensuring regular monitoring, and keeping up to date records in keeping with Pennine Care trust policies.
- To engage with children and families and put their views at the centre of the care-planning process.
- To develop outcome focused planning and intervention with children, and families and set up appropriate monitoring, reporting and management systems.
- To provide advice, consultation and training and clinical supervision to other members of the team, and to key staff in Child Health, Education and Social care settings for their provision of psychologically based interventions to help improve clients functioning.
- To maintain and develop skills in the area of own professional post-graduate training and clinical supervision skills
- To ensure that the clinical training needs of psychological staff working in the CAMH service are identified and supported as appropriate.
- To receive regular clinical and managerial supervision from senior clinical psychologist and operational co-ordinator.
- Maintain continual professional development record as required by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
