PWP jobs
31 jobs open on Mental Health Jobs.
Psychological wellbeing practitioners deliver evidence-based, low-intensity CBT interventions for people with mild to moderate anxiety and depression, mainly in NHS Talking Therapies services (formerly IAPT). Talking Therapies is expanding to provide 915,000 courses of treatment a year by 2028/29 (NHS England), so PWP roles are a reliable way into the NHS psychological professions.
Trainee PWP posts combine a salaried job with a funded university programme, usually a postgraduate or graduate certificate lasting about 12 months. Most ask for a degree or evidence you can study at degree level, plus experience supporting people with mental health difficulties. Apprenticeship routes also exist. Recruitment follows university intake dates, so set alerts early.
Pay: trainees are typically employed at Band 4 (£28,392 to £31,157) and move to Band 5 (£32,073 to £39,043) on qualifying. Senior PWP roles are usually Band 6, with lead and management roles higher.
Registration: qualified PWPs increasingly need accreditation or registration with the BPS or BABCP.
Plan ahead: if you trained after September 2018, you normally need two years as a qualified PWP before you are eligible for NHS-funded high-intensity CBT training (NHS Health Careers).
Pay last updated: April 2026 (NHS Agenda for Change, England).
