About the role

Job summary

We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist to join the Sandwell Stroke Service, based at Rowley Regis Hospital. This is a Band 8a post at 0.4 WTE (15 hours per week), offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months to provide maternity cover.

Applicants who would like additional hours are welcome to discuss the possibility of combining this post with another fixed-term opportunity within General Medicine. We also encourage applications from recently qualified Clinical Psychologists who may be interested in a supported Band 7 to Band 8a development post.

Main duties of the job

Are you a compassionate and committed psychologist who champions inclusion? This is an opportunity to join our Clinical Health Psychology Service within Sandwell Stroke Services, helping people to cope with and adjust to the impact of stroke while supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

You will play an important role in ensuring that psychological perspectives inform care across the community stroke teams. You will provide specialist clinical input to people referred to the service and work closely with the multidisciplinary teams supporting this patient group. Alongside direct work with patients and their families, you will contribute to staff training, consultation and supervision.

About us

The Clinical Health Psychology Service is a team of psychologists who support people to adapt to physical health conditions and develop practical, creative ways of living well. The service operates across three geographical areas: Dudley, Wolverhampton, and Sandwell and West Birmingham, with a range of contracts in each area.

We provide psychological input to stroke services across all three areas. You will therefore join a wider team of psychologists working across services for people affected by stroke and other neurological conditions, with access to robust supervision and professional support.

Psychological professionals form a large professional group within Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, providing access to wider support, learning and development opportunities beyond the Clinical Health Psychology team.

The post will be based at Rowley Regis Hospital. Depending on service needs, the successful applicant may occasionally be asked to support other parts of the stroke service. Full clinical and operational support will be provided should this be required.
