About the role

Job summary

This is a full-time, paid training post leading to permanent employment with Northpoint, subject to successful completion of the 12-month Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Children and Young People, delivered by the University of Manchester as part of the CYP-IAPT programme.

The postholder will undertake approximately 200 hours of supervised clinical practice over 3 days a week and attend all university-based teaching and self-study days. Applicants must- commit to remaining in the service for at least 1-2 years post-training. 

Following training, the postholder will work full-time in Calderdale Open Minds (CAMHS), delivering supervised, evidence-based short-term interventions as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of evidence-based interventions for children, young people, and families on a defined caseload. 

Duties will evolve throughout the training year to meet course requirements and service needs.

Clinical Responsibilities:

Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions to children, young people, and families.

Support care planning during and beyond clinical interventions.

Provide group interventions and parent/carer support where appreopriate. 

Promote and deliver SilverCloud digital CBT for anxiety (training provided). 

Empower children, young people, and families to set goals and make informed decisions about their care.

Conduct brief joint assessments with other staff when relevant. 

 

Collaborative Working:

Liaise with Open Minds (CAMHS) colleagues and external professionals to support joint working and appropriate referrals.

Work closely with FPOC/Information Gathering staff to identify suitable cases.

Build and maintain relationships with professionals in schools, community services, and partner agencies.

 

Consultation and Training:

Provide mental health consultation, advice, and training to the childrens workforce.

Support professionals to access mental wellbeing resources (e.g. Open Minds website, apps, podcasts).

Promote Open Minds initiatives aligned with service goals.

 

Monitoring and Evaluation:

Assist in service evaluation by gathering feedback, measuring outcomes,  and contributing to performance reports.

Submit accurate monitoring data and use appropriate evaluation tools.

Participate in service review and development processes.

 

Professional Development and Support:

Attend multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings as required. 

Engage in clinical supervision, line management, caseload reviews,  and peer-support.

Manage competing priorities and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

About us

This tole is part of Calderdale Open Minds (formerly CAMHS) and contributes to the national Recruit to Train initiative to expant and upskill the childrens mental health workforce. Northpoint is commissioned to deliver part of Calderdales Open Minds Thrive mental health service in partnership with South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWYT).

Our services include:

Single point of access for referrals (FPOC).

Short-term evidence-based interventions, digital therapy, school outreach, and support for neurodevelopmental needs (e.g. Autism/ADHD).

School-based mental health support, including Mental Health Support Teams and practitioner-led training/consultation for school staff.

Collaborative working with third sector partners, Kooth.com, school nurses, and other stakeholders to improve children and young peoples emotional wellbeing.

 

Our work is guided by the Thrive Elaborated Framework, which promotes needs-based care and active involvement of young people in decisions about their mental health support.

What you’ll do as our CBT Recruit to Train Practitioner: 

  • Train as a CBT therapist through the CYP-IAPT Recruit to Train route 

  • Balance academic learning with supervised clinical practice 

  • Work with a small CBT caseload of children and young people 

  • Contribute positively to the Calderdale Therapeutic Team 

 

What you’ll bring as our CBT Recruit to Train Practitioner: 

  • Some existing knowledge or experience of cognitive and/or behavioural therapy 

  • A collaborative, compassionate and proactive approach 

  • Commitment to inclusive, person-centred practice 

  • Minimum two years’ post-qualification experience with children and young people

  • Educated to degree level or an equivalent number ofUniversitycredits – this can include an appropriate Wellbeing Qualification including Level 6 or 7 University Credits i.e. Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs), Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs), Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (MHWP).
